UN's third sanction would affect Iran's economy but it wouldn't halt its nuclear program. Iranians are determined to become nuclear state now.

if Iran has any gumption then the nuclear program will carry on and I believe Iran has a lot of courage...so hoots to UN sanctions...the UN is just a US cabal...

No way, Iran is too adamant to become a nuclear state and any amount of sanctions cannot put a halt to its nuclear program. Yes, it would make life tougher for the common man as the development plans may suffer due to the financial crises, but that will not stop Iran from going ahead.

see, here the question is not to force Iran buckle down, but of nuclear arms race that may fall in the hands of the mideast islamic fanatics. if Iran will be allowed to have the nuclear expertise, there will be many in the combustible mideast who will pursue the same and that will again add fuel to the fire. Iranian program is the matter of concern, no doubt, however, if israel will have the same that will be more dangerous than it's in the case of iran. here there is a need for the collective approach and UN need to formulate some rules in near future to develop uranium for the peaceful purposes. sanctions and all won't do any good but will make Iran fight more vigorously against the double standard.

@ Reza you have wrong information about the third UN sanction. The third set of sanctions have targeted individuals, companies and equipment could be used in your country's nuclear program. And who says it was not unanimous, the UNSC adopted it on a vote of 14-0 and Indonesia abstained from voting. Third sanction would definitely halt the nuclear program.

By imposing sanctions repeatedly on Iran, United Nations is making the things worse. The only solution to the dispute over nuclear program is to start direct talks between Iranian officials with US and allies country.

The upcoming crisis in Iran will be a lesson to rest of the world, particularly to the countries in Asia and middle east.

Even with the previous sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program, the country has in some way been burdened with the restrictions. But it will continue to be hard-headed to show to the world that it is autonomous.

It will try to take other routes of survival. With its oil reserves, Iran can sustain its depressing situation.

sanctions have never stopped countries hellbent upon chasing something. the starving north korea couldn't be stopped. iran is a far better off country.

Iran is already under severe sanctions. Is it having any effect on the regime in any way? No. The only way to sop Iran is by bombing it.

Have sanctions ever worked? This will mean further rise in oil prices if Iran is not allowed to sell oil. BTW how many countries will not defy the US backed sanctions?

Must work. We don't want a nuclear Iran breathing down Pakistan's neck. It is a Shiite country and can never be true friends of Pakistan. Pakistan will be sandwiched between India and Iran with nukes.

Sanctions are bigger killers than bombs.

Same old ideas don't always work. Iran must have drawn out plans should such a thing happen.

Iranians are not too happy with their regime. There had been frequent protests against governments. Iran is not even a true dictatorship as Iraq was. With sanctions the pressure from within would be too much for the regime to change its stance on the nuclear issue. However, that will only happen if the Iranians understand the futility of having nuclear weapons.

Sanctions never achieves anything. Show me a country that buckled under sanctions? Iran must be immediately attacked and its nukes taken out.

Now Iran is directly in the line of fire. It would be interesting to see what the mullahs do now.

This time America need not mobilize troops from half the world across. They are there right at the doorsteps. I can't say about Saddam, but taking out Iran's clerical gov't will prove to be more useful to the world than whatever taking out Saddam proved to be.

One must understand one thing about Iran. It has a long glorious history and Iranians are proud of it.

In present times they nurse a deep feeling that they lost their pre-eminence in today’s world because of the west.

Now they are out to regain the lost glory. Sanctions will not deter them.
