Just two days ago, Gordon Brown was urging us all to stop wasting food and combat rising prices and a global shortage of provisions.
But yesterday the Prime Minister and other world leaders sat down to an 18-course gastronomic extravaganza at a G8...

I believe that it was disrepectful to hold a meeting about global food crises while having expensive meals. Also knowing that this meeting would be in the news.

How can we trust these handful leaders to solve any world crisis, be it food or fuel or Mugabe?
This is more of an exclusive party while world awaits news bytes from the G-8 Summit, infact India’s political future depends on this meet. Nothing can be more hypocritical and more real.

Madhuri, as far as the global food crises are concerned, G8 couldn’t solve the crises alone, not at least with having grand feasts while blowing seriousness of the issue to winds. However, much will depend on these nations, I’d add surely.
On the other, Zimbabwe political chaos is not among the global problems however is equally affected – even worse than other nations – by the problems global.
Sadly speaking this summit has always been much a do for nothing, a blame game arena, a stage for hypocrisy… Even the G8 summit last year was intended to curb the pollutants, but nothing substantial has happened or done either. It’ll be a different story this time, well seriously speaking, I doubt.

Vinod,
Why do these leaders decide to meet up annually? They want to feel important themselves? Is it some sort of picnic at picturesque locale with exotic cuisine thrown in?
Maybe they meet to decide that nothing can be done...

That is why I’ve written ”much will depend on these nations” provided there is honesty of thought and will to tackle the global problems, difficult however they may be. Isn’t it???

Is there any ’honesty’ and ’Will to tackle’? Difficult to say...
But much is at stake for these world leaders too. Inflation is burning hole in everyone’s pocket...and they have to answer their citizens too...
It will be unfortunate if they get together just to assert their place of dominance in the world and how they can control developing and poor nations.

”18-course gastronomic extravaganza”- may sound very big and wastage to us, but may be very negligible for these leaders. Hahaha.....have a little feeling and respect for them dear friends. After all they are discussing our problems. How can we expect them to cut down their luxury and expensive food?
It is nothing surprise to me. They are habituated to this as we are to daily bread or rice.
But yes, one should have suggested them to take a photo with very minimal food. That’s to be published in the media.

Yes, they have managed to have food on the menu of the G-8 summit at least literally!!
Hope they’ll get down to discuss crisis on food and fuel fronts...
Yes, they not being hypocrites by publishing photos like you said above...
