Can China do a Tiananmen in Tibet and host a successful Olympic?

# Support for an independent Tibet and boycott of Olympic Games is growing.
# China so far has done their level best to portray itself in the positive light; however, the brutal crackdown shows its darker side.
# West wry China’s economic prosperity, but know that calls for boycott are unlikely to succeed and the last thing West can do is to push China into isolation and nothing else.
# Though the events have dented China’s hopes of a smooth Olympics in Beijing, but still it’s highly unlikely that it’ll be a reminisce of 1980 boycott of the Moscow Olympics by the US and several other countries.

fie fie!!!! to Chinese for tormenting and snatching away what belongs to Tibetans, i wonder what the internationally community is doing to help Tibetans out, especially the propagators of democracy and Peace who supported Kosovo independence for some of its personal gains but they are mum coz they can’t (rather don’t wanna) do anything here to offend the next economic superpower. The prigs don’t want to do anything that is of no interests for them and peace and independence is a cock and bull story that changes every now and then. So ethically China doesn’t deserve to host the grand phenomena like Olympics. But who cares ethics in this materialistic world.

Yes, unfortunately they can. I do not like it - I think it is disgusting but the thing which will stop them mass-murdering in Tibet is if the countries of the world threaten to boycott the Olympics and, as we all know, politicians are for the most part cowards so - we can expect most countries to do a little semi-diplomatic dance about Tibet but to still acquiesce with China’s stance on their sovereignty over Tibet because no one wants to offend China. I don’t think it is good at all but I think China will be able to pull off another massacre and host a successful Olympics and mainly because the rest of the world is too timid to do anything about it.

Of course Chinese can do it, they can kill thousands of people in Tibet just in the name of maintaining integrity of country and they can easily host a successful Olympics. Both are prestigious issue for Chinese administration that China just don't care what rest of the world thinks about them.

The major question is not whether problems China's role in Tibet tarnish its role in rest of the world but how much it will be tarnished? US President George Bush and leaders of European countries have clearly said that they didn't support a complete boycott of Olympics. Dalai Lama is also not in favor of boycotting. The International Olympic Committee asking every country to avoid talk of Olympics boycotts.

China will easily manage the whole thing in its favor. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has told British Prime Minister Gordon Brown that China is willing to hold discussions on Tibet with the Dalai Lama but only under certain pre-conditions. It is enough to restrict the protests in Tibet now.

Definitely it will and I tell you the reason. China is the fourth-largest economy in the world. It holds some $1.5 trillion in foreign-exchange reserves. Even US avoids criticising any of Chinese moves on International platform. It has the powerful voice on different global issues stretching from Iran to Korea.

Let China host the 'Genocide Olympics'. China is continuously arresting the protesters in Tibet and the Human-rights activists are criticizing the continuing arresting of critics of Olympics games in China. let China barring journalists from visiting Tibet and killing the freedom of Press. We are ready to watch the 'genocide Olympics', let it go..

Britain is in dilemma over its role on the recent Tibet issue it seems. Dalai Lama is scheduled to visit Britain in the month of May. The Chinese government has send the clear indication to British PM Brown not to meet Dalai lama during his visit to London.

We have seen news of clash happened in Tibet on the front page of newspapers in Israel. The top three newspapers even devoted two additional full page coverage to Tibet issue in Sunday editions. Israeli media is thinking differently than Israeli government, which is under pressure from China and the government didn't say a single word about the clashes in Tibet..

Indian government is just following what British and Israeli government are doing over the issue of Tibet. Every country is concerned about its trade and diplomatic relations with China. India is also working hard to establish trade and diplomatic links with China. This is why the Indian government ordered local police to arrest all the protesters.

Ofcourse the repressive communist Chinese regime can. Does China really give a damn about human rights and free thought and expression. The answer is a huge NO!!! And will the boycott of the Beijing Olympics really affect China’s stance. I don’t think so because China, has for long a very arrogant nation which really doesn’t give a damn to anyone’s opinion. Why will China be any different this time around???

There is nothing that’s going to stop China from doing so. I don’t see why China won’t be able to pull it off easily, Tibetian people aint that big a force to stop China and there aint a country that is willing to say a word against China.
Its beyond me that why China is going to host an event like Olympics. International event for Peace to be hosted by a country like China certainly makes no sense.

Has anyone seen how Russian government reacted over protests against China in Tibet? Russian government is vigorously supporting China because it regards China as a strategic ally and powerful economic partner. Foreign Ministry even issued a statement and stated that Chinese government should take all the necessary steps to control the illegal protests going on in Tibet to ensure the normalization in Tibet. China is gaining support from almost everywhere...

China’s huge economic clout will also be a major factor which will determine whether the countries of the world will support or denounce China. And most of the western countries are huge importers of China made goods. So, i feel it will boil down to convenience rather than the righteousness

For China, Tibet is not the only problem but the ongoing efforts to clear the Beijing's air for athletes to breath is almost a daily reminder. This is the price China is paying as the result of its massive economic progress. One can imagine, it would be tough for the world champion long-distance runner like Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie because the polluted air may aggravate his asthma. The whole world is watching China's failure to control the global warming measures.

Participating in China's Olympic is not less than suicide for athletes. China is using the game of Olympics just as an instrument to control dissenters. The Chinese administration had falsely announced that it broke up a Muslim separatist group, which was targeting to disrupt the Olympics.

There are too many eyes on the country for the govt. to pull off another Tianamen. If the Chinese were to go all out on Tibet’s ass, this time there might be graver consequences. I mean think about it how could they possibly take such a chance with the Olympics just around the corner? Would be too much of a gamble. But the funny thing’s that the authorities won’t let things get that big anyway. Little incidents of 10-12 protesters getting killed might not make too much of a hullabaloo, that a mass murder will certainly do. Hence all the more reason to prefer the former.
The Olympics were going to be the big event to promote brand China, No way would the Chinese like to screw it all up.
